MICHELLE (EPISODE 4)

 The chapel prefect led the school in a soul-searching worship. The assistant chapel prefect now led in praises. It was the last praise section for the term and the year so the junior students were found doing so much. The school's chaplain now took over . The tune of "Joy! To the world" was heard even in the next building. Truly, there was joy. The principal climbed up the podium to give her farewell speech. She called upon the dean of studies to call out the students who would be awarded . The dean of studies started from the junior classes. It was now ss3's turn. Everyone was waiting impatiently. Would it be Henry, Michelle or Sarah. The whole school was anxious. Some said "It's going to be Henry" . Others said "I'm rooting for senior Sarah" and some people said "How will it be Henry? Can't you see he's been chasing after Michelle. Henry has lost focus, I would say it's Michelle. Prom queen"

The third position happens to be"Sarah!" . The dean of studies announced joyfully and Sarah stepped up to the stage. She was raging, burning with anger, with so much anger. The second position happens to be"Michelle! Henry! Michelle! Henry!" The students were chorusing. "Calm down everyone, allow me to do the talking" he said as he adjusted his glasses. The second position is.......... "Michelle!" He screamed blissfully. Sarah found herself smiling exquisitely. She was so thankful that it wasn't her adversary that came first. "If I can't have that first position, then she cannot too " she was  feeling a thumping sound on her chest. Michelle was shocked. She knew what was going to happen at home. She graced the crowd. And the first position happens to be our very own... "Henry! Henry! Henry! Henry!" Was heard from everyone in the crowd. The dean of Studies continued. "It is Henry !". "Give it up for our head boy, a round of applause, please" Henry smiled and waved endlessly.

Awards were given. Henry was awarded an automatic scholarship for the following term's fee including his SSCE fees. Henry couldn't be more happier. Michelle was given a half term's fee scholarship and her SSCE fees were also paid. Whilst, Sarah had her SSCE fees paid. The principal read her closing remarks and all students, in groups walked to their classes. "Henry" Sarah called out. Henry turned to see who it was."Congratulations, I'm super proud of you" She said adjusting his neck tie. He immediate removed her hands from his body. "Sarah, what are you doing? Everyone is watching. Did you see Michelle?" He asked. "Don't know, don't care!" Sarah yelled and walked out on him.  Henry was looking all over for Michelle, he was hoping to speak to her and give her a Christmas present. He finally saw her. She was alone in the balcony contemplating on how to tell her father that she wasn't top of her class this term. "A kobo for your thoughts" He waved a One thousand naira note across her face. "Henry!" She held his hand to take the money but he was faster and stronger than her. He quickly put his money back into his pocket. "So, my Cinderella, what are you thinking about?" He smiled sheepishly. "Remove that smile from your face , it looks silly" she said with sarcasm. 

"But Michelle you know I like you, I like like you, I really like you " He smiled more sheepishly. Michelle found herself smiling with him. "Congratulations on your win" she said . "Thank you,my Cinderella. I promise you, next term I'll allow you to come first. Just accept me, just let me be your Romeo  and you'll be my Juliet. Please, pretty Cinderella " . Henry was smiling more sheepishly than ever. He looked handsome in the eyes of Michelle but Michelle knew that she had a bigger problem. She didn't know how to face her dad. He would certainly be angry with her. So angry.

The two of them sat down staring into space."You don't want to go home?" Michelle asked. "I'm waiting for you" he said. "But my father would be very late today" she said. " I don't mind waiting " he replied.  The two of them sat there for hours in silence. Michelle now stood up and Henry followed her. She took her bag and walked towards the gate . She now stayed with the security. "Go home, it's half past 5". She said to Henry. "A hug ?" He opened his arms. She looked at him for some time and then fell into his embrace. "Goodbye, Merry Christmas " she said. "Merry Christmas to you my Cinderella. I'll call you, I'll also text you. Please, make sure you reply my texts and picky calls " . He waved goodbye. He wasn't able to give her his Christmas present. "I'll give it to her next year " he thought aloud.
